The Snipers - Three Peace Suite

THE SNIPERS - THREE PEACE SUITE

Whilst it was always nice to break even so as to at least cover costs, turning a profit was apparently of little concern to Crass Records which was just as well really, as the next release on the label would prove to be another financial loss for them.
Three Peace Suite by The Snipers was a record ploughing a very minimalist seam and were it not for the production of Penny Rimbaud, to be truthful, it was so minimalist that it would have been quite flat and even, perhaps, quite boring.

As a band, The Snipers were like one that might be seen at a free festival in the middle of the night on some ramshackle stage, their amps powered by a car battery, playing to whoever might be walking by at the time. Not that this would be a bad thing, of course, but for such a band to be plucked from such obscurity and have a record released by Crass was fortunate in the extreme.
Sadly, whilst being worthy, the end result was neither innovative nor very exciting.
Were Crass, or rather Crass Records, losing their way?

Thank heavens, then, for the Subhumans, who like a troop of cavalry were soon to suddenly appear on the hill to come riding to the rescue...
